For one mornings, the Sydney Harbour Bridge was turned into a picnic spot. Thousands of people flocked to the world famous landmark to share breakfast. Normally, in the mornings, the bridge is packed with the vehicles of busy commuters driving bumper to bumper trying to make it to work in the rush hour traffic. But, now it is closed for traffic for this morning. For one mornings, it is transformed into a huge gathering for a breakfast as part of a food festival. Around 6,000 people were invited on the grassy banks in the middle of the highway.
This is a scene like never before with freshly laid grass, grazing cows and thousands of families enjoying a picnic breakfast. Many people who were not among the lucky ticket holders drawn from a ballot of 190000 people to take part in the unique gathering still turned up at each end of the bridge.
The officials of government of New South Wales estimated the cost of laying on the unique event cost around £400,000 (but agreed it was worth it).
